The Mountain Loggers Cooperative Association Safety Initiative (MLCASI) was created in 2007 as a means of positioning member logging companies to take the best advantage of the privatization of workers’ compensation in West Virginia, beginning July 1, 2008; for helping member companies comply with OSHA regulations; and for improving the safety performance of enrolled companies. Program emphasis has been on developing a documented safety program designed to differentiate the group from the general industry. This differentiation is intended to secure premium reductions that are possible with safety credits, a dividend program, and so forth. 

Whether a member of the MLCASI or not, there are certain things companies need to do as an industry that can lead to mutual benefits for everyone. The purpose of this Bulletin is to promote awareness of an issue that can generate immediate, as well as future benefits to the logging industry.
