Wild plants were critically important to the survival of hunter-gatherer

societies and to early European settlers in North America. Several native

wild plants have been cultivated for food, fiber, medicine, landscape and

ornamental uses. Income opportunities also exist for managing and

harvesting wild plants in natural settings. This paper reviews income

opportunities, legal and marketing issues related to the culture,

management and harvesting of wild plants.
